Luis Saglie has been hailed as a composer by the international public, professional musicians and the press. In connection to his work as a composer, he is also constantly active as a conductor, pianist and pedagogue. The great Samuel Adler states, “Luis Saglie is one of the most respected composers, pianists and pedagogues on the musical scene today”.

Saglie has had a prestigious musical upbringing as a composer, conductor and pianist in Europe (Hochschule für Musik/Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität -Vienna, Austria) and the United States (UCLA - University of California, Los Angeles), earning a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Musical Composition.

He is kept busy with constant commissions from instrumentalists, symphonic and chamber ensembles, universities and artistic centers. He has collaborated as a composer with soloists of the Vienna Philharmonic, Radio Orchestra of Vienna and the Niederösterreichisches Tonkünstler Orchestra of Austria as well as the Herbert von Karajan Centrum in Vienna, Theodor Körner Fonds of Austria, Musikwerkstatt Wien - Vienna, Florisdorfer Chorvereinigung Harmonie - Austria, University of Music in Vienna, Split Chamber Orchestra in Croatia, National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, Loja Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Symphonic Band of Quito, Solístico de Santiago Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the University of La Serena in Chile, the Chilean Ministries of Culture and of Foreign Affairs. His music has received numerous performances in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Oceania.

Saglie´s music has received numerous performances in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Oceania. His collaboration as a composer with professional soloists has extended to countries such as Austria, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, England, Lithuania, U.S.A., Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Greece, Turkey,  China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, among others.

Luis Saglie conducted the premier of his first opera, El día de la liberación in Vienna, Austria receiving outstanding reviews. Heinz Sichrovsky of News Magazine, Austria wrote, “Today, it is a rare thing for opera premiers to be remembered. 'El día de la liberation' by the Chilean composer Luis Saglie was in every way memorable”. The Österreichische Musikzeitschrift, Austria published, “Luis Saglie’s score to 'El día de la liberación' is put together through a brilliant technique lying somewhere between moderate serialism and a free-tonality”. Renowned opera composer Jake Heggie comments, “Luis is a man of the world with a vast musical vocabulary and his own sense of invention. Luis also has a genuine sense of drama and theater in his work and I look forward to a large-scale opera from him one day soon. He will surprise and delight us all.”

Saglie has composed opera, symphonic works, concertos with soloists, chamber music, music for diverse solo instruments as well as film scores and musical theater.

As a pedagogue, Luis Saglie has held positions as Head of Composition Department (Universidad de Cuenca, Ecuador), Professor in charge of Composition at (Universidad Mayor, Chile) as well as Professor of Composition and Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra (National Superior Conservatory of Music, Ecuador). Currently, he teaches composition at the University of Sydney, Conservatorium of Music in Australia.
